Christian Matt

Christian Matt is a Full Professor and Co-Director of the Institute of Information Systems at the University of Bern. He received his PhD in 2013 from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, where he worked as an Assistant Professor thereafter.

Christian Matt teaches and researches the influence of digital transformation on organizations and their value creation, as well as the responsible design and use of AI applications. He has led several interdisciplinary SNSF projects and investigates, among other things, how organizations can map digital transformation strategically and operationally and how AI technologies can contribute to promoting this transformation. He is a member of the Digitalization Commission of the University of Bern and a member of the "Law and Digitalization" research unit of the Faculty of Law at the University of Bern.

He actively engages in cooperation with scholars and firms in various countries as part of several research and consulting projects. For instance, he is co-organizer of the "Workshop on the Digitization of the Individual" (DOTI) that has taken place in Dublin, Seoul, San Francisco, Munich, and Copenhagen. He has served as editor and guest editor of several well-known international journals and has been track chair at leading internal conferences to promote research in the academic community. The Association for Information Systems (AIS) has honored him as a Distinguished Member.

His research has been published in leading academic and practitioner-oriented journals (e.g. MIS Quarterly, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Information Technology, Journal of Management Information Systems, MIS Quarterly Executive).

Christian Matt has been working for SAP as well as a freelance consultant in the fields of IT services and digital business, serving clients across industries, such as software and IT, media, transportation, and enterprise associations. He supports firms, organizations and authorities in their digital transformation efforts, with consulting, dedicated trainings and specific practice-oriented publications.
